What Are Carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are the molecules that give you energy! How much energy you receive from your carbohydrate depends on weather it was a simple or complex carb. Simple and complex carbohydrates are very different. Simple carbs aren't the best for you... they are smaller molecules that are quicker to digest making you hungry again soon... some simple carbs can be candy, white rice or bread, and cake or donuts. Complex carbs are generally better for you because they contain bigger molecules that require our bodies to work more and take longer to digest. Some complex carbs can include; whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta and vegetables. The Canadian food guide recommends 6-7 servings of carbohydrates per day.
